After passing the Biscayne can buoy 8 miles north of Government Cut, a south bound steamer comes to within a mile offshore of Hardie’s casino on the beach before the captain realizes his situation. He then makes the mistake of going due east not knowing he is inside the reef line. With luck and high tide the steamer bumps her way across the lumps east of the cut. (10 Oct 1919)
